I saw that last night! Whilst the gist of the letters is true, suggesting that people who have nothing buy breadmakers is a bit off!

I just want to buy some decent bread. It all tastes like pap to me.

My sort of place. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/m ... ant-review

And I’m very sorry to hear that Pollen Street Social is closing. My very posh London restaurant of choice.

And as one would expect from JR a sensitive and perfectly pitched comment on being Jewish today.

Jason Atherton was on James Martin’s programme yesterday morning talking about his plans re Pollen Street and reframing other of his UK enterprises … very interesting response to the changing UK customer-base … I suspect where he leads others will follow.

Freddy’s is conveniently located and sounds great.

And please note - I know I bang on about it - proper salt beef sandwiches in bread from a loaf, not a bagel! lick lips

A brave piece. Long may such places with authentic traditions of all kinds keep going.

It will also be Burmese (Myanmar) New Year, called Thingyan - same Buddhist calendar.

Hasn't he always run the Langham though?

The Langham has several restaurants I think? He only runs one. And it will be much less of a load for him as presumably The Langham run everything except the brigade, the menu and possibly the cellar.

The hotel website lists five dining rooms including Chez Roux
https://www.langhamhotels.com/en/the-la ... ndon/dine/

I’m afraid I don’t share the near-universal love for MR, when he took over the old BBC’s Food & Drink programme I found him really annoying in many ways. I’d still like to eat at one of his gaffs though!
