We have had a decadent lunchtime here, with live jazz.
Lunch was lahma plus the chocolate babaganoush and a flatbread.
The lahma is really nice, I've had it a couple of times before.
J ordered the babaganoush because he was intrigued
It was nice enough, didn't taste of chocolate but it was pretty sweet.
Think I will stick to the traditional recipe.

Looks a great place WW. What a nice modern menu. Not sure about the chocolate babaganoush!

In between my "clearing" sessions (campfire friends will know what I'm talking about!) I needed some more Ikea boxes so we went to Sam's Kitchen, on Chancellors Road, behind Riverside Studios. I think Rocky went to Sam's Brasserie on the river recently. Had a delicious brunch (we had a 15% opening discount due to run out tomorrow!). Gorgeous Brixham crab on a crumpet with Hollandaise and a soft poached egg. Here's a pic, sorry, only thought to take one after I'd already eaten one of the crumpets https://www.samskitchenw6.co.uk/menu-hammersmith

KC - we went to the new Sam’s Waterside about 5 weeks ago but sadly OH was unwell. We’re going again on Monday. We had a very passable dinner at Uli in Marylebone - pan Asian and very nice. Tomorrow lunch is at the Black Dog in Brentford - it’s sooooo good
Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Some good news for eating out locally. Our nice restaurant, St James, that was up for sale, has announced that it is continuing.
https://stjamesbushey.co.uk
I'm making a huge guess here, but I'm wondering if it has been taken over by the chef and his wife who left six years ago to run their own hotel and restaurant in Herefordshire. That business was sold very recently, and I heard that they had reduced the business from a restaurant with rooms to a guest house, as it was difficult to manage as a "hands-on" couple with young children. We will see what transpires. The Herefordshire business got rave reviews as a restaurant. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restauran ... gland.html

Today we’ve been to the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art (just over a mile from here and a very favourite place) to look at marvellous art and artefacts from all over the world, and lunched in the Modern Life Café … we each had a large bowl made up of several different and very tasty salads
https://www.sainsburycentre.ac.uk/wp-co ... 2024-1.pdf … very tasty, very good value and a wonderful place to be.

We ate her https://www.watermansarms.co.uk/ on Friday night - with a couple who have the same first names as me and OH - endless amusement as you can imagine!
It was a really interesting menu and a lovely space overlooking the river. We shared the ricotta fritters, beef tartare, mozzarella and bread. Then I had a courgette canneloni - which was really good.

Nowhere posh but as there were no trains Derby to Bham on Friday, I got the train to Bham after work Thursday and met up with R at the Premier Inn. We ate here: https://bundobust.com/locations/birming ... vlEALw_wcB
I swear the food there is better than Manchester or Leeds!
On Saturday morning, we needed breakfast in Walsall and found this place: https://www.lovelysweetcentre.co.uk/
Not a very salubrious area (across the road from the main hospital) but the food as fabulous - and cheap! 3 curries, a rice and 3 roti for £12.50! We took as a big beautiful bag of mixed pakora and samosas away with us for £6.50. What an absolute gem!

We’ve been there a few times…nothing too special, but just all round ‘nice’.
(That’s a compliment btw!)

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Looks like decent modern pub grub.
I lunch locally from time to time with friend, today we had agreed to go to the kosher group I’ll I went to with Andrew who did the Chinatown tour. But the whole row of shops was closed, we don’t know why, we’d checked the Jewish religious holiday calendar and Monday is usually a good day.
So we went to the Kurdish/generic Middle Eastern cafe, 215 Hackney, which is actually the nearest to me. I hardly ever go there, and it’s very good and cheap, and they are very community minded.

I had the Damascus plate, which was good, dak dak salad is chopped salad, I think the name comes from the sound of chopping. Excellent hummus.

That menu sounds lovely.
I assume it's alcohol free?

I’ve never checked the drinks, just had coffee - I think they don’t sell alcohol, it’s primarily a coffee shop with substantial food as well as cakes etc and open 07:00 to 16:30; but if you book it for a function I think you can make arrangements.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Lunch was at the Camberwell Arms. I had three courses!
The starter was jersey potatoes (which were very good - they tasted like they ought to (!) which they often don't seem to) with roast () Tropea onions, goats cured and chives
Very (wild) garlicky fazolletti, courgettes, pine nuts and Grana Padarno.
Chocolate fudge cake with 'pouring cream' (Why not single cream?!?)
I am not sure if T's was quite as nice. He had
beer onions on toast with aged Gruyere
grilled kohlrabi, potato fritter, cashew cream with preserved lemon and chilli.
I also had homemade lemonade.
All very delicious. We will book to go again sometime. (Maybe when they change the menu. There were only two viable options which we had between us today.)
I won't be having dinner tonight!

Sounds lovely Herbi.
Perhaps pouring cream because if the alternative is whipped cream then that’s a real pair of textures? It always is “pourin” restaurants I find.

It was all very nice at any rate! I have been missing this kind of food so much and although a little more expensive than usual, not that much so and very much worth it.
I also had a nice lunch at the Clerkenwell kitchen this week. I think that involved wild garlic too.
Must use some from the garden before it’s too late.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
Yesterday we took MIL for Sunday lunch at a local pub
https://www.thewhitehorsebaston.co.uk.
It was the best pub Sunday lunch I've had in a very long while ... we all chose herby wild mushrooms on sourdough toast to start with and that was delicious. Then we all chose the roast beef sirloin ... but MIL wanted hers well done ... OH likes his just a little bit pink and I like mine very pink ... they got it absolutely right and the young waitress remembered which of us wanted which.
MIL was very happy with hers (and some extra gravy), OH was happy with his ... and I was ecstatic with mine ... two large thick slices of perfectly pink sirloin, soft and and succulent and very tasty. Roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips with cauliflower cheese and lots of broccoli and steamed courgettes ... fabulous gravy and light and fluffy Yorkshire puds to rival my own ... really really impressive.
We didn't have room for puds, but wished we had 'cos neighbouring tables' were really enjoying theirs.
We shall be going there again.

Re: Where have you eaten out today?
On Saturday night we ate here
https://colosseorestaurant.com/menu-1/
We both went for pizza, I had the margherita and J had the Colosseo. There was far too much cheese on both pizzas, I only had about half of it. We won't be going back there.
